I'd say this is me, but there's always so much more to learn that you can never completely be comfortable. However, most of my colleagues are less techno than myself, so by comparison I feel knowledgeable.
Personally, I use digital tools for most things, since I am online most of the time and "trust the cloud" to a pretty ridiculous extent. My school library, however, is no where near online. How could it be with just 13 computers? I don't even have the drops to add more machines, even if I somehow miraculously was given more...would love to shift to digital reference, but that's just not practical because I need print resources to bridge that gap. But I feel like my print collections supports the curriculum, which is pretty static at my school. Believe it or not, when I see classes, I often have UNUSED computers, because the collection has the texts which fit those perennial assignments. Meanwhile, when I teach online search strategies, I know a lot of it won't "stick" because many of my students don't have computers or Internet connections at home on which to practice those skills. And the kids who don't have access to computers at home are the least likely to use the machines in the library...and they think I have supernatural abilities with computers.
I am so there, Alice. I get so mad at folks who make the excuses for not knowing more either. Do i expect them to be just like me? No. But I do expect more than a lot of what I see. Sigh. I must sit on my feelings here though--might ruffle some feathers.
